Dental Crowns & Bridges

A DENTAL CROWN is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth - covering the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and/or to improve its appearance. The crowns, when cemented into place, fully encase the entire visible portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.

Crown
If part of your tooth is missing or broken off, and a "filling" cannot be supported by the remaining tooth structure, a crown will be necessary (some people refer to a crown as a "cap"). If your problem is a cracked tooth, the sooner it is treated and crowned, the more likely it will be saved. Once the crown is cemented on, it is stationary and works a as protective cover. The crown will add extra strength to your tooth structure and will improve the appearance of the tooth.

When do you need a Crown?
  • To strengthen a decayed, cracked or broken tooth.
  • To protect a tooth that´s at risk for cracking. This measure helps to prevent problems such as pain and/or the need for a root canal.
  • To improve the appearance of the tooth.
  • To improve the cleansibility of a tooth.
  • After a tooth has root canal therapy.

Types of Crowns
  • metal-fused-to-porcelain
  • gold-fused-to-porcelain
  • porcelain jacket crown
  • circonia-base crown ( CERCON and PROCERA)

Crown and Bridge treatment details

The treatment of a crown, bridge takes a week to complete!

During your stay you will need to have at least two visits:
the first for the preparation, impression, shade taking and fitting the temporaries; and the second to fit the permanent crown, bridge.

The temporaries will be made so that you can use the tooth while you wait for the permanent ones to be made.

The shade of the permanent appliances will be made to match your other teeth exactly. The shade of the neighboring teeth will be recorded, to make sure that the color looks natural and matches the surrounding teeth.

There are two possibilities to go about your crown or bridge treatment:
  • 1. You could stay the entire week and get a wonderful holiday while getting your treatment done. For example if you arrive on a Sunday, the treatment starts on Monday morning and comes to a finish on Friday. On Saturday we provide a check up before departure.
  • 2. You come and go the same day and have the temporaries fitted. On the 2nd visit which is 5-10 working days after the 1st your permanent appliances are fitted.
Treatment plans show a great variety, therefore it is best to consult our Dentist for your personal treatment plan and time schedule.

What is a dental Bridge?

Bridge
A dental bridge does exactly what the word implies: it bridges across an empty space. A fixed bridge is anchored from one strong tooth to another strong tooth and fills the gap that was left by the missing tooth (or teeth).

Dental Bridge benefits
  • a fixed bridge is stationary. You don´t need to take it out at night.
  • It looks like your natural teeth.
  • It´s comfortable and doesn´t move when you´re chewing.
  • It anchors and supports your neighbouring teeth; keeps teeth aligned; and restores your mouth to a level of prevention.

Bridge drawbacks

There really are no drawbacks but a bridge needs to be cleaned very diligently. You will have to use a special floss (we recommend Superfloss from Oral-B) or irrigator and get under the bridge to keep plaque and bacteria from collecting.

Types of Bridges
  • metal-fused-to-porcelain
  • gold-fused-to-porcelain
  • porcelain jacket crown
  • circonia-base crown ( CERCON and PROCERA)
